Structural Integration begins with the "ten series." This is a ten session series, usually done one session per week on consecutive weeks. This is a thorough and very powerful way to lasting change in the physical structure.
The results of Structural Integration are lasting and improve over time. By gradually and systematically releasing stress and tension in the connective tissue system of the body, breathing becomes easier, more length and space is felt in the joints, and significant changes in awareness occur as a result.
A typical session lasts from 50 minutes to an hour long. Depending on the session, one may be lying on one's back, sides, front, sitting, or standing during the session. Pressure is carefully applied using the fingers, palms, or forearms to various parts of the body in order to free up the connective tissue. Following a ten-series, I usually recommend my clients take a break from Structural Integration for at least a year in order to digest and integrate the changes from the series. Following the break after the ten series, clients are invited to return for some advanced work. This may be in the form of either a 3 or 5 session series.
Dr. Rolf, the founder of Structural Integration, maintained that this work is an educational process rather than a remedial one. This is a principle to which I adhere when doing this work. Although Structural Integration has a good name for helping to "fix" things such as chronic pain and discomfort, you should know that this is not the true goal of this work. The goal is to bring the physical structural into better alignment and harmony with it's surroundings. Simply put, my goal when working with others is not on providing short term relief of pain or discomfort, but to provide lasting change.
Structural Integration is an opportunity, and a very precious one at that. If your focus is only on fixing a local problem, you may miss the beauty of the process. The broader and more refined your awareness is, the better things will be. As I say once in a while: If you are not aware of yourself, your situation may get better and you won't even know about it.
What to wear: Women are asked to wear loose-fitting comfortable clothing, such as sweat pants and a t-shirt. Men can either wear loose-fitting clothing or underwear.
Rates per session: between $20 and 130 in Norwalk, CT. My normal Norwalk rate is $130, but due to the state of the economy, I have decided to make the rate flexible. $150 in NYC. Checks and cash, no credit cards. Payment is accepted at the beginning of each session.
Cancellation policy: Clients who cancel within 24 hours of the scheduled time (for reasons other than weather or emergencies) will be asked to pay the full price of the missed session ($130 in Norwalk, and $150 in NYC).
